Pregnancy-Related Issues in the Management of Addictions

Welcome to the addictionpregnancy.ca website, home of the PRIMA (Pregnancy-Related Issues in the Management of Addictions) project.  The PRIMA project is designed to assist Canadian health professionals to provide care for women with problematic substance use problems during pregnancy and after delivery.

General Prenatal Care:

Information on the general care of pregnant women using any substances, including initial clinic encounter, management of medical emergency, approach to care, follow-up visits, infectious diseases, and drug toxicology testing

Specific Substances:

Information on clinical considerations and effects of substances, including tobacco, alcohol, opioids, cocaine and other stimulants, sedatives, inhalants, hallucinogens and “designer drugs”       

Perinatal, Postpartum & Child Development:

Special considerations during labour & delivery, during the neonatal period, and for children who were prenatally exposed to substances.
